All rose pieces are made to order in our studio from sterling silver, gold-filled, gold plating and silk thread. All pieces come packaged in a rose pouch.
Sterling silver is a mixture of pure silver and some other metal, usually copper. The resulting alloy gives the silver strength. The standard is at least 92.5% of pure silver hence the "925" you often see on silver items. All silver used in rose jewellery is solid sterling silver.
Gold-filled is effectively a thick hard coating of gold: the gold content of the item is at least 5% or 1/20 of the total weight. Made with 14k gold, it is hard wearing. With reasonable care it will not peel or rub off, and should last as long as solid 14k gold jewellery. It is safe for most people with sensitive skin.
Store your sterling silver and/or gold-filled jewellery in the rose pouch that comes with your piece. This will prevent tangling with other jewellery and helps protect against scratching and tarnishing.
Silk thread is cord made from 100% silk. Silk is a sensitive material and is more receptive to dirt and grease then other natural fibers. We recommend not wearing silk cord jewellery at the beach or when showering. Avoid contact with creams, perfumes and sunlight as these will effect the appearance of the silk and may wear out the fabric faster.
Gold-plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal. All rose jewellery gold plated items are 18kt gold plated over sterling silver. This allows for subtle wearing because under the gold is sterling silver.
Gold plating does eventually wear off; each time the piece rubs against something (eg. ring on car steering wheel) it wears down the gold. The wearing process can be slowed down if you take good care of your plated item.
